Just as the arrival of Spring really kicks off the start of the 2015 fashion calendar, it also heralds the arrival of new trends for interior decorating. And it’s fortunate timing - anything that gives a light at the end of the “Spring cleaning” tunnel is welcome!
So what are the trends primed to dictate the inside of our homes going forward in 2015? Well here are a few we have deduced, based on a mix of expert opinions, and hints from the fashion world:
Lines
First and foremost in the world of fashion, line work is in. A lot of items showing up on the catwalks of Milan and Paris are incorporating lines into them, but usually in the form of decorating or accentuation as opposed to all-over pinstripes.
This will be most applicable to walls and floors. You can easily work them into new wallpapers and carpets, which aren’t exactly strangers to line work anyway. you could also work this into the tiles in your bathroom without much trouble. But again, avoid plain “stripes” - geometric or line heavy graphics are the goal.
Picture Prints
Moving on to accessories, experts are almost unanimous in their prediction that graphics and pictures are set to dominate. Plain, simple colours aren’t cropping up anywhere. But cushions, curtains and throws featuring pictures of birds, landscapes and the like are.
These don’t have to be literal pictures though. They can be embroidered into the fabric, or be art pieces. But if you want to start getting creative with cushions printed with your own photos on them, now is the time!
Yellows/Oranges
Furniture design is certainly leaning towards citrus orchard colours. Yellow chairs and orange bedspreads are the hot ticket, with or without the graphics mentioned above on them. But for anybody who might find these colours a little garish if they are too bright, don’t worry. In fact, rejoice - across the board, subtle, subdued colours are handily beating out anything flashy. They are still bright, you won’t be forced into mustards and “old gold” colours, but they aren’t an assault on the eyes either.
Soft blues
The only other colour really getting any love is subdued blues. A lot of fashion designers are incorporating it into their items, as either the main colour or as an accompaniment. So when applying it to interior design, we suggest you team it with your graphics on the pillows and curtains dotted around your house. If it doesn’t look odd in blue, give it a go.
Black and white art
Finally, the lack of colour for the most part is likely down to the resurgence of black and white. These featured heavily in the line-heavy garments mentioned above, and interior design experts are translating it’s appeal into artwork to adorn your walls. Fairly inexpensive black and white graphics are popping up everywhere in the background of Spring 2015 decorating ideas, so it might be a good idea to pick some pieces up now before the prices start to creep up.
